An Update and a Contest Winner

May 12th, 2009 · 2 Comments

First off let me say I am sorry for the long delay in announcing the next contest winner and for the fact that there has not been an update in a month or so.  Vinyl has not left my life but I just needed a break from updating the site and sadly that came in the middle of a contest, but I will just call that suspense and let you all know that the winner of the Niagara Falls LP is Harman J.  Congrats!

I plan on posting still, I cannot promise how often, but when I do I will try to post something worth your time, thanks for reading.  I have some items that I would like to give away so check for some upcoming contests really really soon, don’t remove me from that RSS reader just yet.  If you have not checked out this band Jail yet please do so.  I love um and have a copy of thier album to give out.  It’s a self-released, DIY, smash.

CONTEST: Niagara Falls - Sequence of Prophets LP

March 13th, 2009 · 6 Comments

Artist: Niagara Falls
Title: Sequence of Prophets
Format: LP
Label: Honeymoon Music
Catalog #: HMM014
Pressed: 500

Niagara Falls is a trio based in Pennsylvania who released their debut album back in 2004 and if organic, instrumental psychedelic jams are your thing then you are going to want to enter this contest. This LP is filled with a great mix of strings, keys, booming drums at parts, along with other percussion elements and some electronic elements. Sequence of Prophets is the bands latest release and first release on vinyl. The pressing is limited to only 500 copies and includes a free download of the tracks as well. The band wants you to hear their new album and is giving away a free copy to one lucky winner of this site. My description of the album is not going to do it the justice it deserves but luckily you can preview the entire album for free on the bands website. If you are not interested in waiting to win a copy head over to the bands label, Honeymoon Music, and pick up a copy here.

All you need to do to win a copy of this record from the band is send an email to contest@limitededitionvinyl.com with the subject line “Niagara Falls” before Friday, March 20th at 4PM EST. The winner will be randomly chosen and will be announced shortly after this time. Good Luck!

Love Boat - Imaginary Beatings of Love LP

February 17th, 2009 · No Comments

Artist: Love Boat
Title: Imaginary Beatings of Love
Format: LP
Label: Alien Snatch
Catalog #: 48
Pressed: ? (100 color)

Love Boats debut full length, out on the German label Alien Snatch, is a continuation of what the band started with it’s debut 2007 single. While none of the songs on the album may stick in my head as fast as Love Boat Song, this record is a great collection of highly addictive, danceable rock n roll songs. The record is pressed on high quality 180 gram vinyl and the first 100 copies are on a colored vinyl. The only place to get one of those is directly from the label and it will cost you 11 Euro (about $14 USD) plus shipping. If your in the US and you want a copy you can pick up the black version from Get Hip which is a great place to pick up European releases and this is going to cost you $15 plus $5 for shipping. Thats a deal compared to the $16 overseas shipping from the label. Guess you’ll have to pick between cost or color. Either way, instant beach party.

Title: Bats In The Dead Trees
Format: LP
Label: Lost Treasures of The Underground
Catalog #: 8
Pressed: 300 (100 on green vinyl)

The Cheater Slicks have just released a brand new LP that contains four long, instrumental “total damage meltdown” jams and I couldn’t be happier. This is the first time this side of the band has been recorded so unless you happen to catch them live in the act bustin out sick jams like this, it’s a whole new world to you. The new LP is out on Lost Treasures of The Underground and is limited to just 300 hand numbered copies. The first 100 are on a green vinyl and if you want one of those, you better act fast. The labels website lacks ordering information but here it is for anyone interested. The LP is $15 plus $5 shipping in the USA, $8 shipping to the rest of the world. CONTEST: Dreamend - The Long Forgotten Friend 2xLP

Artist: Dreamend
Title: The Long Forgotten Friend
Format: 2x LP
Label: Graveface
Catalog #: grave028
Pressed: 675 (150 blue and gray vinyl)

Buy it at Insound!

As 2009 starts to roll on and I get back into writing for this website we will start up with a great, great contest.  Ryan, from Chicago based Graveface Records, was kind enough to set up a giveaway for the new Dreamend 2xLP titled “The Long Forgotten Friend”.  Not only does Ryan own and run the Graveface label but he also is a part time guitarist in Black Moth Super Rainbow and puts out music under the Dreamend name.  The album is based on memories of an old relative and will prove to be a perfect fit for the cold wintry season surrounding many of us.  While your reading this, I highly recommend you head over to this page here which has a full stream of the album and listen to some of the tracks, a lot of you are going to like this.  This LP is limited to only 675 hand assembled LPs.  The first 150 copies ordered directly from Graveface will be pressed on a blue + gray color wax and Ryan confirmed a few are left.  All copies of the double LP are packaged in what I suspect will be the best packaging you are going to see all year long.  The artwork is designed by William Schaff, who has also designed album artwork for Godspeed You Black Emperor!, all of the Okkervil River albums and many others, and is a handmade pop-up gatefold LP.  Each one of these packages takes about 35 minutes to put together and you can check out a teaser video here to see the work being done.  The vinyl version comes with a CD copy as well and anyone who orders from Graveface will also receive a demo cdr from this albums sessions.  Oh yeah, and you get 4 additional songs not included on the CD as well.

We are very excited to be able to give away one of the color version of this 2xLP, limited to only 150 copies. If your interested in winning a copy of this amazing looking record all you gotta do is email contest@limitededitionvinyl.com with the subject line “Dreamend”.  All emails entries must be received by Sunday January 25th @6PM EST to be valid.  I will announce the winner shortly after.  If you do not want to enter or wait to win, just head over to the Graveface store where you can pick up a copy of this for $23 on black wax, or $25 on colored wax.

Bat For Lashes - Fur and Gold LP

December 15th, 2008 · No Comments

Artist: Bat For Lashes
Title: Fur and Gold
Format: LP
Label: Manimal
Catalog #: mani-002
Pressed: 1000 (800 black, 200 blue opaque)

Manimal is re-issuing the debut full length from Bat for Lashes which has been out of print for a few years now. This is a welcomed re-issue as anyone who has attempted to get a copy has had a rough time and probably shelled out 60 bucks on eBay for a copy. The LP is being released in a set of 1000 on 180-gram wax and in a gatefold sleeve. Those who want a copy on blue opaque wax, limited to only 200 copies, will need to order directly from Manimal Vinyl. This extra limited package will cost you about $25 if your in the USA. These will ship tomorrow but Manimal says January 20th for the black copies to hit the stores. Aural Exploits has copies and claims to be shipping tomorrow as well. These will be black wax but will also cost about $5 less. Great time to pick up this album if you have not already done so. I for one have always loved that “What’s A Girl To Do” song and video and figured I might enjoy the rest of the album.

RTFO Bandwagon - New Jack 7″

November 27th, 2008 · No Comments

Artist: RTFO Bandwagon
Title: New Jack
Format: 7″
Label: Dull Knife
Catalog #: ?
Pressed: 300 (1st press, Sold Out), 100 (2nd Press)

Another band who calls Columbus, OH their home and is showing some great promise is RTFO Bandwagon. Their “Hippie is punx” sound is hard for me to explain and I don’t think I will try. What I will say is that I am somewhat upset with myself for picking up this 7″ and forgetting to play it for 2 months because it’s 2 months I had to live without this gem playing. New Jack is quite the jam and easily my favorite local / Columbus release of the year. The 2nd release for the band, the first being a CD release in 2007, is now available again from Houston’s Dull Knife label. The initial pressing of 300 hand-numbered copies is all sold out so if you missed that here is your chance to pick it up again. A 2nd pressing of 100 copies on black wax has been released. These copies are not numbered and contain no inserts but the good stuff (the tunes) is still there. These are available from Dull Knife for $5.50 here or if your in Columbus check Used Kids Records for some. You can listen to these tunes over on the bands Myspace page before you pick up the single if you really want to. Be on the lookout for the bands next full length release in February of 2009. This will be released on Dull Knife in the LP format.

Thomas Function - Nomad 7″

November 26th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Artist: Thomas Function
Title: Nomad
Format: 7″
Label: Alive
Catalog #: ??
Pressed: 1000

Thomas Function is back for their second release on Alive Records. If you recall earlier this year they released the excellent LP, Celebration, on the same label. This new 7″ features 3 songs that Alive/Bomp! is advertising as all non-LP tracks. Those tracks include, Nomad, We Simply Just Attack, and what appears to be a track from the LP, Peanut Butter and Paranoia Jam. I suspect the last track may be a different take on the song but my single has not arrived yet so I cannot confirm. Either way PB&P Jam is an awesome song so no worries. This single is being pressed in a run of 1,000 and will be on a marble vinyl. Celebration is definitely going to be at the top of my 2008 shortlist (which I guess you will see soon) so if your feeling a bit underwhelmed about the albums you picked up this year do yourself a favor and go to the Bomp! store, pick up this 7 inch for only $5 bucks and the grab the full length LP as well. Then be prepared to forget all about that disappointing new Kings of Leon album, cause this brings the rock n roll y’all.

Cheval Sombre - I Found It Not So 7″

November 18th, 2008 · No Comments

Artist: Cheval Sombre
Title: I Found You
Format: 7″
Label: Static Caravan
Catalog #: VAN172
Pressed: 500

New York based musician and composer Cheval Sombre is taking pre-orders for his next vinyl release, the 3rd for him in only a few months, titled I Found It Not So. The two track 7″ single contains the new title track which is a dreamy lush nugget that is bound for a place in the Sunday morning rotation, even if the label pegged this as a twilight track. The guitar lines are very subtle, so much so I didn’t really hear them fully until a few listens. Once I did, I heard an entire new side of the song and really enjoyed what I heard. The b-side is a cover of Where Did Our Love Go by the Supremes. At first this seemed like a strange pairing, however, the outcome is surprisingly good. The song remains his own, equally as dreamy and lush as the first track but retains the original tracks energy. This 7″, just like the first one released by the label, has sold out in pre-order from Static Caravan so check with your favorite online shop or local record store if you want a copy. The single is pressed on black wax, limited to 500 copies, and was produced by Sonic Boom. Cheval Sombra also released the single I Sleep on Trensmat Records in September that was limited to 300 copies on green vinyl.

The Muslims are back with another 7″ single, this one from LA based I Hate Rock N’ Roll records. This 2 track release features one new original track, “Parasites”, and on the b-side is a cover of the Spacemen 3 song “Walking With Jesus”. This is the third release for the San Diego band following a now out of print 7″ on Sweet Tooth Records and an awesome full length release earlier this year. You can still listen to both of the tracks of the out of print Extinction 7″ at the labels myspace page as well as listen to both track off the new 7″ at that labels page. The new 7″ is limited to 1000 copies and is available for purchase right now, right here, for $6. It is another excellent release from what is shaping up to be my favorite band this year. Completest who already own these 3 release can find a exclusive Muslims track called “Inside Job” on the CD that accompanied Espous #11, which is a very cool Modern Art magazine.

Format: 7″
Label: Rocketgirl
Catalog #:RGIRL54
Pressed: ?

Buy it at Insound!

A Place To Bury Strangers have released a new 7″ from UK based Rocketgirl records featuring the track, I Know I’ll See You from the bands debut full length. This new single features a remix of the same track on the b-side. The label calls this a limited 7″ and still has a few copies left at its store. Because this is a UK based store anyone in the US or Canada may want to pick this up from Insound instead for $7. I am not sure on the total number of records that they pressed for this release. If your a big Place To Bury Strangers fan you will probably want to pick up the labels limited edition UK release of the debut album as well. This item appears to only be available directly from the label. The UK version is a double LP with the first LP being black, the 2nd LP is a bonus color LP that contains 5 bonus tracks on one side and a etching on the other side. This double LP will cost you 15 pounds plus shipping.
