Artist: The Dutchess & the Duke
Title: Never Had A Chance
Format: 7″
Label: Horizontal Action
Catalog #: HZR-020
Pressed: 500 (150 Gold ‘Half-tone Z Face’ sleeve)
Hozac is currently accepting pre-orders for all three new 7″ records that they are releasing this July. In addition to new singles from Black Orphan and Jacuzzi Boys is 2 brand new tracks from
The Dutchess & the Duke. I recently picked up a copy of their debut album ‘
She’s the Dutchess, He’s the Duke’ from
Hardly Art and it’s been taking a lot of rides on the turntable so I am very excited to see 2 new songs already. These 2 new tracks are ‘Never Had A Chance’ and ‘Scorpio’. Hozac singles are typically limited to 500 copies, all of these with the first 150 being Gold editions that have different sleeves. The first 150 Gold editions of this record come with alternate ‘Half-tone Z Face’ sleeve design. At this time these singles are not available to order from Hozac’s website (unfortunately, just a
myspace page) so you need to be on the Hozac pre order list or read this blog. Orders can be placed by paying Hozac with PayPal to todd (at) horizontalaction.com. If your in the USA the single will cost you $6.50 post paid, Canada/Mexico/South America will cost $6.95 post paid, Europe and the rest of the world will cost you $10.75 post paid. If your interested in the 2 other singles being released I recommend you contact Todd at Hozac as you can reserve a copy from them and receive a slightly discounted price when you buy all 3 records.

Artist: The Barcelona Chair
Title: …by the Barcelona Chair
Format: LP
Label: Self Released
Catalog #: -
Pressed: 500 (Transparent Green)
Limited Edition Vinyl is proud to announce its first ever record giveaway contest! Hopefully this will be an on going thing, as long as labels and bands continue to send records to give away. The first record we have to give to a lucky vinyl lover is by a band called
The Barcelona Chair. This Vancouver post-rock outfit has created a very good release that I have really enjoyed listening too. Don’t worry, the copy I am giving away is brand new and un-played! Fans of any post-rock outfit should enjoy this release which is pressed in a small run of under 500 on transparent green wax. The A side contains the tracks the B side contains a silk screened image, a nice change from the typical etchings that are done on B sides. It comes packaged in a heavy vinyl sleeve with a nice flap and a strap to tuck the flap into, pretty fancy for a self released record. The band is currently selling copies of this LP on their myspace page for $10.
The contest starts right now, entries must be received by 4PM on Wednesday July 30th. To enter send an email with the subject “Barcelona Chair Contest” to contest@limitededitionvinyl.com with your name in the body. I will reply to the winner shortly after that time to collect the winners address. Good Luck!!
If any bands or labels are interested in having their records used in a future contest please contact me via email: collector@limitededitionvinyl.com

Artist: Kawabata Makoto
Title: We Don’t Know Where We Came From

Artist: Brimstone Howl
Title: Euro Tour 2008
Format: 7″
Label: P. Trash
Catalog #: P.Trash42
Pressed: 600 (100 Red, 500 Black)
If you have not already figured it out, I love
Brimstone Howl. With good reason, these boys are the most underrated, under appreciated rock n roll band out these days. This Euro Tour double 7″ set is a great place to start if you have not heard the band yet. The songs on these 2 7″ records are not new to this release. They are gathered from the full length record, ‘Guts of Steel’, the song Rattle from the very hard to find Rattle 7″, and a few other already released tracks. This also features my favorite track from the full length called Heartattack. What makes this release so cool is the awesome card board packaging that it is in. The covers are silk screened all around and it looks very nice and is a very unique package. Brimstone Howl took 500 of these pressed in black on their European Tour this past spring. P. Trash also pressed a special 100 on Magenta (I call it red) wax with Magenta covers. These were only available to mail order customers and sold out to curious fans before it was released. Fans in the US can know get a copy of this from the Bomp! online store for $19
right here. It may seem a bit pricey but if you purchased the records from P. Trash with our weak dollar and then add shipping it will be more. You can also order this 7″ package (for only $14 dollars) and the really really good B.H. single ‘Tunnel of Love’ from Boom Chick
here. Continue reading for more pictures.

Artist: Jennifer Gentle
Title: Live In The House of God
Format: 12″
Label: A Silent Place
Catalog #: ASP36
Pressed: 300
A Silent place has just released a new live 12″ single from Italy’s
Jennifer Gentle. This new 12″ was originally recorded in 2003 in an empty, unconsecrated church. This LP is another installment in an on-going series of records documenting the weird life of Jennifer Gentle in the foggy plains of Northern Italy. Basically the sound of JG’s mainman Marco Fasolo going wild with an old, battered electronic piano and a bunch of sound effects, “Live at the House of God” is a side-long improvisation sharing the same spirit of those 20-minutes keyboard freak-outs Sun Ra used to record in the late Sixties. Alternatively spacey and noisy, the piece is a dark, often unnerving exploration in sound, shimmering all the way through with a distinct Krautrock / early Cluster vibe. The new owners of the church were horrified and outraged by the sheer loudness of the performance, but God liked it a lot.
Only 300 copies of this 12″ limited edition record were pressed. It comes in a deluxe heavy cardboard sleeve and includes one insert. This 12″ can be purchased from A Silent Place directly. Please note that they are located in Italy so shipping will cost as much as the record if your in the US. I have no idea how much this record will cost you as A Silent Place has yet to add this item to it’s website or their myspace page. If you are interested in a copy I suggest you contact them directly.

Artist: Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks
Title: Cold Son
Format: 10″
Label: Matador
Catalog #: OLE-811
Pressed: 1000 (? Red, ? Black)
Matador released this Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks 10″ for Record Store day earlier this year. It’s a great 3 song single featuring the track Cold Son from ‘Real Emotional Trash’. This single also includes 3 unreleased tracks, 2 from the ‘Real Emotional Trash’ recordings and one from ‘Face The Truth’. I picked up a copy on black vinyl at the record store but it appears that the Matador store has a very limited quantity of this 10″ available for purchase. The copies they have are on red vinyl which I have not seen on eBay and didn’t see in the stores. These could be pretty rare. It will cost you $10 to get a copy of this and you can find it right
here. While you are there I highly suggest you also pick up a copy of their album ‘Pig Lib’ which is still available on vinyl.

Terrible tag lines aside, if you spent 30 minutes trying to order the new Jay Reatard 7″ from Matador yesterday, be prepared to do it again today (July 15th) at 3PM. Here is the note that Dean, the matador website manager, published on the matador forum.
To Everyone That Ordered Today,
To start off with, we are deeply sorry about how messed up everything got with the Jay Reatard pre-order. There were a number of frustrations and mess-ups along the way that made ordering this record insanely difficult. It initially got put up too early, and those that ordered it early ended up not being able to re-order during the regular time. The first orders were deleted, but their cancellation wasn’t processed in time. Coupled with the slow server speed, a lot of people who signed in very early ended up empty handed.
To make up for this, and make it fair for all of the people that want to order the record we are going to re-start pre-order Tomorrow, 7/15 at 3PM ET. All orders from today are getting cancelled. I know it’s even more annoying to go through all of this again but we will work incredibly hard to ensure that there is more room on the server to accommodate traffic, and make sure that we don’t have any more “FRAUD” notifications for people that already ordered.
Once again, we’re going to do pre-order again Tomorrow, 7/15, at 3PM ET at matadorrecords.com/store
I’m very sorry about this and sincerely hope that we can regain your trust.
Good luck today!

You can get a copy of it right here if your fast with the fingers. Just don’t be too fast, I want a copy too.

Artist: The Acorn
Title: Glory Hope Mountain
Format: LP
Label: Paper Bag
Catalog #: PAPERLP027
Pressed: 300
Here is a record I should have posted on a long time ago. Released toward the end of 2007, Canada’s
The Acorn play a smooth combination of indie rock with a clear folk influence. ‘Glory Hope Mountain’ is a biographical album based on the life of band member Rolf Klausener’s mother. This double LP is limited to only 300 copies. Each copy is hand screen printed and numbered. The second LP features an etching on the b-side by band member
Howie Tsui. I am looking forwarded to ordering a copy myself which can be done at the
Paper Bag online shop for $20. According to the online inventory they only have 2 in stock so order fast to avoid missing out, I cannot locate another location that is selling this LP.

Title: Interpretations Of Three Psychedelic Rock Songs From Around The World (Latitudes 0:00)
Format: 12″
Label: Southern
Catalog #: ?
Pressed: 1,000(700 White vinyl, 300 Black)
The Southern Records
Latitude series has been going on now since 2005 and focuses on limited edition session recordings that “capture the transience and limitless expression of our modern world”. This Grails 12″, number 4 in the series, was originally released in 2005 on CD only. This has now been released on extra thick white vinyl, with 300 on black vinyl. The A side contains the 3 tracks while the B side is etched. Grails covers “Satori” by the Travellin’ Flowers Band, the Byrds’ “Space Odyssey” and finally “Master Builder” by Gong. This release is limited to 1,000 copies only and it looks like
Aquarius Records managed to get 25 of them into their store. If you are interested in this I suggest you order fast as it might be sold out already. If AQ is out then you can try
Insound as they appear to have some in stock as well. If you are from the UK or Europe (or the US and want to pay for it) you can order directly from
Southerns online shop and get access to one of the 300 black pressings. The 12″ runs 9 pounds from the Euro store and about $15 US from the US retailers. If you have not picked up their latest full length, Take Refuge In Clean Living, I suggest you
check out the band and pick it up.

Artist: Dungen
Title: Sätt Att Se
Format: 12″
Label: Mexican Summer
Catalog #: MEX001
Pressed: 1000 (300 Orange/Gold Haze, 700 Gold)
Dungen is currently at work preparing their next studio album over there in Sweden, titled 4. The first single, “Sätt Att Se” will be released on a brand new label called
Mexican Summer. This 12″ single will be limited to 1,000 copies with the first 300 on an orange and gold haze wax. According to
Subliminal Sounds this 12″ will also be released by them as well in Sweden. I am really not sure how that works, if it’s a joint effort or 2 pressings. Personally, I love Dungen and am looking forward to this release and the new album. Sometimes people get scared of world music but it’s just a great psychedelic rock band from Sweden, don’t be scared! This will be the first release for the new label which officially opens for business in August of 2008. I have very high hopes for this label. They are a vinyl and digital only company and all vinyl releases will be “beautifully packaged, numbered, pressed on high quality virgin vinyl and include a download card.” Wow, perfect! They plan to release 2-3 albums a month, will be providing a subscription service if you want all the records and a few select stores will get copies. Checkout the website for more details and to signup for the labels mailing list.
UPDATE (7/24/2008): Subliminal Sounds is currently taking pre-orders for their hand numbered pressing of this 12″ Dungen record.

Important Records has re-pressed The Grails - “Take Refuge In Clean Living” LP as the first press sold out in just a day or two. The first 100 copies of this pressing will be on amber color vinyl, 1000 copies total. These are priced at $15. They also re-pressed A Place to Bury Strangers debut LP, the first 100 copies on white vinyl and will set you back $12.
They also received 100 copies of the new Eleh LP titled “Homage To The Square Wave”. The record was created only using square waves. If your not sure what that means, you probably won’t enjoy this LP. This is pressed on 200 gram vinyl and “It is packaged in a 2 color letterpress jacket that was actually die cut and hand glued/hand folded to create a letter pressed jacket with a printed spine!”. Sounds like a very nice package. Out of the 100 they received from the label, Taiga, they received 20 of them with signed and numbered inserts. With the insert will cost you $30, without will cost you $20. Eleh is very collectible and these LPs tend to sell out really really fast. Give it a shot if it sounds interesting, you can always sell it on eBay for much more. Act fast, won’t last more then 24 hours.
They also have a Sic Alps tour 7″ in stock, many different colors available. limited to 1000 copies. 500 on blue, 200 on red, 200 yellow and 100 on green. If you want a copy on green you gotta buy all 4 colors. I wasn’t too happy about that but oh well, I guess people out there buy 4 copies of the same 7″ more then I like to think they do.

Artist: Thomas Function
Title: Celebration
Format: LP
Label: Alive
Catalog #: SYA021
Pressed: 500 (Clear vinyl)
Celebration is the first full length release from Alabama’s genre defying Thomas Function. In every other review I have read the reviewer goes on to say they are a blend of punk, pop, R&B, garge rock and so on. Honestly, I don’t know what to call it other then kick ass, infectious rock n roll. The first thing you will notice is Joshua Macero lead vocals. It is somewhat high pitched and reminds me of the first time I listened to the Dead Kennedys and was taken back by Jello’s vocals. Think that will bother you? Think again. The next thing you notice are the clean guitar licks racing along with the song. You can’t help but dance to the groovy pop style keys that chase that clean guitar line all over the record. The production on this record is top notch, crisp and clean. Alive released this LP in a linited edition of 500 copies on clear wax. It sold out almost immediately. Due to issue with the pressing plant some of the LPs had issues on the b-side which have resulted in some distributors not selling their copies and probably making this pressing run much less then 500. My copy is just fine thankfully! In the latest installment of the Scratch Records newsletter they advertised that they had copies to sell but when I searched the website it was not to be found. I guess its over to eBay if you really want a copy! Alive will be doing a re-press on black vinyl and that will be available very soon.
Thomas Function has also released many great 7″ singles. Chances are they will not be available for much longer, as most of them are not already. Head over to Dusty Medical Records to pick up a limited to 100 copy re-press of the 2007 single ‘Relentless Machine’ on orange wax for $3.75. This was originally released as a 500 pressing run, 100 on color, 400 black. Tic Tac Totally also has copies of this (not sure if its first press color or not) as well as the ‘My Empire’ 7″. The bands first 7″ ‘Vanity Lights’ seems to be completely out of print, both pressings. You can head over to Rocket Reducer and pick up a copy of the bands 2nd 7″ ‘The Insignificants’ (black wax repress I believe) which was pressed originally on green (100 copies I think), then on blue and finally on black. They also have a repress of ‘Relentless Machine’ that Pat says is on Clear wax? Not sure whats up with that. You might find some of these from European distributors. I got the last copy of the ‘Relentless Machine’ original color pressing from P Trash for and arm and a leg thanks to our weak US dollar. European distributors are a great place to find OOP US releases. It’s going to cost you though.

Well I figured since I posted about a 15% off sale at rocket reducer I would go ahead and post about the just announced sale that Suzy is putting on at the Bompstore. 10% off your entire cart. You spent all your money last weekend at the local record store so its time to throw some money across the state border. To get the discount type BOMPSALE into the promo code box during checkout.
Not sure what to purchase? Well the Thomas Function LP kicks some major who ha, put thats sold out. Damn. Actually, I don’t need to provide suggestions for this one, there is a ton of stuff in the store. Great records, excellent books, and even some zines to tide you over until your next issue of Cat Fancy arrives.

One of my favorite small distributors, Rocket Reducer, is having a 15% off sale because, well, he needs some money. Go check out his stock and buy something. I recommend that you buy Brimstone Howls Tunnel of Love single. Not counting the Love Boat single I mentioned a few posts ago it is the best single I have heard this year. He also agrees that they are the best rock and roll band out these days.

Alive Records has been on a roll the past few years. In addition to the many excellent new LPs coming out on the label are 2 new color presses, both limited to 500 copies, of the Black Keys debut album, The Big Come Up. Now available on Yellow and Pink vinyl this is a perfect time for fans who may have caught the Black Keys fever a little later in the game (or for the collector who wants to impress his emo/punk friend who owns the same LP in 28 different colors). You may recall this was repressed last year on 180 gram vinyl. This has now sold out, along with the original pressing on white vinyl. These LPs will set you back only $12 and can be purchased directly from Alive at the Bomp! store here. Don’t wait too long and while your at it do yourself a favor and pick up one of the other fine LPs they offer. Radio Moscow is a good choice for Black Keys fans.

So this is technically old news if you read the Warlocks website more then I do but very exciting none the less. The band has been working on a series of limited edition 12″ vinyl only releases in conjunction with both Tee Pee (their current label) and Birdman (their first label). The only details they tell us are that no vocals are going to be on the tracks and its more of an experimental thing. I am very very excited and will continue to follow this project as soon as more details are released.

Artist: Of Montreal
Title: She’s A Rejecter
Format: 7″
Label: Polyvinyl
Catalog #: PRC-130
Pressed: 1000 Yellow - 1000 Blue
Sometimes I feel like hanging with the big boy music blogs and talking about the same old bands. Not that there is anything wrong with Of Montreal, quite the opposite. Of Montreal continues to put out creative and exciting tunes. This 7″ has 2 a-side tracks from the latest release, “Hissing Fauna, You are the Destroyer”, “She’s A Rejector” and “Bunny Ain’t No Kind of Rider” with the bonus track called “Little Rock”. This limited edition record is pressed on blue and yellow wax, both being limited to 1,000 copies. You can pick it up from Polyvinyl at their store for $5, both colors are still available at this time. The b-side isn’t the most exciting track and with 2 a-sides from the full length this one gets filled under collector only purchase. One thing I alway enjoy about Of Montreal releases is the art work, this is no exception. You may also want to pick up the Gender Mutiny tour only 7″ that is available for $5 as well. This limited edition pressing was only available on tour and remaining copies are now being sold off. Only 1,000 of these were pressed on black vinyl.

Jealous Butcher will be accepting pre-orders for Colin Meloys live LP Sings Live! on March 15th. The first 400 people to order will receive the limited edition bottle green 180 gram LP. The LP also has a “fancy jacket” and “extra art”, whatever that all means! More specifically, you get an extra song, “Blues Run The Game”, if you are wise enough to buy the Jealous Butcher LP instead of a CD or the intangible ones and zeros release (those things the kids call MP3’s). I suspect this will go very fast and will be eBay gold to many. The album is all live and is a collection of tracks from Colins solo 2006 tour. Checkout some more information here to decide if you should get this release.

Columbus, OH lo-fi “shitgaze” rockers Psychedelic Horseshit have had their first ever 7″ repressed in a edition of 300 copies by Columbus Discount Records, the best damn label in the land. The original pressing of 500 has been sold out for some time now. These dudes are closely related to the Pitchfork Darlings Times New Viking so it’s only time until they too get signed to a major and appear on the cover of US Weekly pregnant and drunk. For some reason you cannot purchase this record from CDR until Monday or Tuesday next week but you can get it from Rocket Reducer here right now. Its fuzzy, noisy, poppy and fun and who doesn’t like fun.
EDIT: This is sold out at Rocket Reducer already, you can pick up a copy at Boom Chick Records here.

Artist: Love Boat
Title: The Love Boat Song
Format: 7″
Label: Shake Your Ass
Catalog #: SHY-022
Pressed: 300 Black - 100 Red
I have come to the conclusion that I will order every 7″ that Shake Your Ass releases. Each single is packaged in a thin semi-glossy sleeve that I seem to enjoy more then the standard cardboard slip covers. The releases are either in color or hand numbered and typically limited to a low number. Most importantly, the records all make you shake your ass. Hidden behind the wonderful cover art is garage rock with a slight hint of pop, dirty and raw but still catchy as hell. Love Boats first single is probably the best 7″ I have heard in a few months. The 1st track is called Love Boat Song (
listen here)and carries an infectious chorus over background oh la la vocals and a “can’t help but clap along” beat. The twangy and simple guitar licks fit perfectly over all of this. This song is so catchy it seems perfect for use as an ipod commercial. Considering its a 7″ only release that would be a very entertaining choice. The b side, Don’t Ask Me Why, is another garage pop gem that really shows off how tight the band is for having such a loose feel to them. You can pick up this single directly from
Shake Your Ass to get a copy of the red 7″ which is limited to 100 copies. This record is also available from several smaller US distributors including
Tic Tac Totally. Anything from the US distribution is probably going to be the black vinyl. I am eagerly awaiting news of further releases from Love Boat.

Artist: Guinea Worms
Title: Box of Records
Format: 7″
Label: Columbus Discount Records
Catalog #: CDR019
Pressed: 500
Sometimes you hear a song just once and love it. This is one of those songs. Box of Records was a song that seems made for a blog like this. All I care to write about is records and all this song cares to do is tell everyone that there is nothing in this world better the a box of records. A box of records is in fact, better then a bottle of beer, because that bottle of beer will be gone soon. This noisy rock n roll nugget is brought to us by the Columbus, OH band the
Guinea Worms. They have been playing music around the city for years and years and this is the first bit of wax they have released in a very long time. If you love records you have a simple excuse to pick this 7″ up, cause its all about records. This record is limited to 500 copies on black vinyl. Each record is hand stamped and lovingly fucked with by
Columbus Discount Records. Word on the streets is that the 7″ is selling fast, probably the hipsters who read about Times New Viking on Pitchfork, or maybe the collector scum thinking ahead for the rise of Columbus and CDr. You can order it from CDr directly for $5.50 postage paid.
