Just released way too early for Christmas is the 5th seven inch single in a series of holiday singles from Suicide Squeeze. Back again is David Bazan, the guy who used to be Pedro The Lion, with his take on the holiday classic Jingle Bells, and what will no doubt be a entertaining b-side, All I Want For Christmas. This single is limited to 1,000 copies spread over 3 colors. There will be 400 on Green and Red and 200 are available on White. These will be in stores November 4th but you can order a copy from Suicide Squeeze right now as they are currently shipping these out. The single will cost you a full $6 and be prepared to drop $3 on shipping. You might want to pick up one of the other limited edition singles that SS has released to lower that shipping cost to record ratio. These have sold out each year so if you want to play some good Christmas tunes for the family this year head over to store and pick on up.

HoZac has released a new bath of singles for everyone to enjoy. Here is the information from the mailing list. If you want one of these you need to order quickly, the singles are limited and the first 150 are Gold edition with different artwork and on gold wax. These will sell out today.

HZR-021 MEDICATION - “Don’t Die” b/w “Fog” 7″
The cold, dark waves of desperation and imminent mortal doom ring true on this debut 7″ from Medication, a home recording project from Conneticut that delves into the drifting echo-filled world of Mikey Hyde, who makes no qualms about addressing the despair and melancholy vibes swirling around his cranium. With jangling, distant orchestrations plodding alongside the beat of an old gypsy drum, this might just be the epically Autumnal record that sets you straight this year, and fans of Pink Reason might just find a new perennial favorite within these desolate grooves. As always, the first 150 copies are the Gold Edition with alternate ‘Attic Daze’ sleeve.

HZR-022 SUBTLE TURNHIPS - Fuck the People, Fuck The Power 7″ EP
If they let people in America gargle with razorblades like they allow the folks in France, then the mighty force of the Subtle Turnhips would be as big as Paris Hilton’s forehead, and ten times as ugly. As an enigmatic band that’s been mostly self-releasing records for the past eighteen years, the time has come for their first US release, and we’re mighty proud to host them on our label. With their slop-punk aesthetic effectively tickling the nuances of Swell Maps, TV Personalities, Drunks With Guns and Brainbombs, this is one 7″ EP that will win over anyone with a lick of good taste, and/or a pulse. As always, the first 150 copies are the Gold Edition with alternate ‘Corrosive Nail Font’ sleeve.

HZR-023 GRAVE BLANKETS - “Our Love is Real” b/w “Trip Wire” 7″
Emerging out of the spectacular modern musical hotbed of Columbus, Ohio, Grave Blankets are one of those bands that write colossal hooks into their songs that stick to your ribs upon first listen and furiously embed themselves into your evoked set of perilous preferences. Stripped of any gloss or NME hype, Grave Blankets offer a true picture of how disgustingly pure rock’n roll is done, as they careen and writhe under your skin and somehow walk away with one of the most memorable hits of the year, in a year already full of stellar releases. As always, the first 150 copies are the Gold Edition with alternate ‘Faceless Geometric’ sleeve.

Ordering Info:

Sorry, but we have to limit the Gold Editions to ONE copy PER release title, PER order.
Please don’t beg! If you order more than one copy per record, you will get one Gold edition (if still available) and one Black Edition, or possibly even TWO black editions if the Gold are sold out. It’s first come, first serve, that’s just the way this works, folks. Lucky for you, we don’t release dogshit, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

Canada and Euro orders ship airmail.
All prices are postage paid. We are offering a special low price for one of each single which is obviously the best deal.

The Muslims will appeal to fans of Gang of Four, the Strokes and Franz Ferdinand. They play a very catchy, upbeat style of good old rock n roll. Every once in awhile I hear a band that I just know I will love as soon as I hear it, these guys are one of those bands. This 7 song 12″ comes in silk screened sleeves that were shot with a .22. The inserts were also hand typed by the band. I am not sure how many of these were pressed but due to the care and attention that seems to have ben given to each one I do not suspect a large number of these to be around. This is the second release for 1928 Recordings, and they have also included a CD version of the album to rock out in the car that contains 3 additional tracks. You can pick up this release for pretty cheap at Insound, only $11, just click the Buy At Insound link above to check it out. If your a fan of the band they have a sold out, out of print release on Sweet Tooth records that you might want to try and track down. Lined up in the future is also a new 7″ which you can listen to and pre-order at I Hate Rock N’ Rolls page.

This is Bellyaches first split single and I imagine once these 200 are sold out the chance for a repress is slim. The label still has copies of the limited edition double CD compilation that these tracks were taken from available to fans of Halloween tunes. It’s a steal for only $9.

Carcrashlander is the solo project of Cory Gray, a Portland-based piano-player and trumpeter. He also currently plays with Norfolk and Western, Graves, Nate Ashley, and performs studio sessions with countless other Pacific Northwest bands. He was formally in Desert City Soundtrack, and has played on recordings by The Dodos, The Decemberists, Viva Voce, Laura Gibson, Tracker, Darren Hanlon, Southerly, and many others. His latest release is a limited edition 7″ from Olympia, WA based label People In A Position To Know. The All Y’all 7” is on Green Marble vinyl and limited to only 400 copies, in hand-silkscreened covers and with unique hand stamped labels. The 7” was recorded in two locales, Bear Creek Studios in Seattle, WA and onto a ½” 8-track tape machine in Gray’s home studio in Portland, OR. Gray recruited a rotating cast of friends to fill out the sound, including Rachel Blumberg who used to play in the Decemberists on two of the tracks. I had never heard any of Carcrashlanders music before getting word of this release. It didn’t take me long to decide that I wanted to pick up a copy of this. I recommend heading over to the MySpace page and checking it out. If you like it you can purchase a copy directly from the label.

Missouri’s Jerusalum and The Starbaskets have teamed up with the Wooden Wand & The Vanishing Voice side project, Bengal Traitors, to release a 2nd split single on The Great Pop Supplement. When you read reviews of JATS you tend to hear the names, The Velvet Underground, The Sonics and Modern Lovers. I have had a hard time pinning down just what they sound like but I know I like it, and I like it a lot. It definitely has a pop sound to it but it’s clearly in the psychedelic realm of things. I also hear evidence of classic lo-fi pop like Neutral Milk Hotel in the low, completely fuzzed out guitars. I say go check out their myspace page and give the tracks a listen. They are also selling all of the available records they have released directly from that page. You can pick up this release there too. It’s limited to 350 copies on clear vinyl and comes in a really tripped out sleeve. The label claims to only have a few left and the band probably didn’t get a lot to start with. While your there be sure to pick up the other singles and their full length LP as well. I suspect a lot of people will like this band, I hope you do too. The Great Pop Supplement will also release its first full length LP by this band in the near future.

If your not familiar with The Muldoons and their place in the Detroit rock scene here is a quick run down. The band formed in 2005 and features Brian Muldoon on drums. You may know his name from some other Detroit bands he plays (or played) in. Featured on the guitars are his sons Shane and Hunter, who are 11 and 14. These two also write the majority of the lyrics and guitar lines for the songs. The bands first gig was opening for the White Stripes at a 2005 show in their hometown of Detroit. Jack White also produced their first EP. Pretty exciting for a group of young teenagers if you ask me, who were only 8 and 11 at the time! The first of several new releases slated for the band is the double 7″ EP being released by Little Room Recordings. This EP features 6 brand new tracks from the band, including a cover of the Kelly Stoltz track Are You Electric?. This double 7″ is limited to 500 copies and all of them are hand numbered. It can be yours for $10 plus shipping directly from Little Room here. You also get a download coupon for all the tracks on the EP as well as a bonus track not on the EP. Be sure to check out the photo contest they are running for your chance to win a bunch of great prizes from the new label. While your there I also suggest you pick up the Cut In The Hill Gang 7″, Johnny Walker (of the Soldad Brothers) new project, which features 2 tracks, including a cover of Sugar Never Tasted So Good by the White Stripes.

The Black Angels latest release has been available via CD and download for a few months now. The triple LP for just a few short weeks. Packaged in the ever increasingly popular triple gatefold jacket, this LP does not disappoint. The artwork is simple and stunning, the music, free of the structure that held Passover together, dark and haunting. The journey is not one to take lightly, the 11 tracks that make up Directions To See A Ghost fill 2 and a half records, the half being the 16 minute closer, Snake In The Grass. Those not ready to end their trip can flip over to the F side where two additional bonus tracks can be found. Surf City (Revisited) and Paladin’s Last Stand are two of the four tracks that were included on a bonus EP to those who pre-ordered the CD a few months back. Thankfully these two were included on the vinyl release as well. Light In The Attic has already sold out of the vinyl which was quite a surprise to me. Passover took several years to sell out, however it is now fetching about $70 on eBay. I suggest you call up your local shop and see if they have copies first. If not I was able to locate 2 online stores that have this in stock right now. The first is Aural Exploits which is charging 29.95 plus shipping. The second is Aquarius Records which is charging $33 plus shipping. The LP is already going for more then this on eBay so if you want a copy, don’t delay.

The first release in the Columbus Discount Records Singles Club has arrived. For the first time I feel like I am part of a real singles club. Unlike other clubs that attract a lot of attention and end up flooding eBay with singles because people subscribe just to make money, I think CDR really cares about this. The single arrived promptly as promised at my doorstep. The fact that the CDR headquarters is no more then a mile away from me probably helps as well but these guys had the singles Friday evening at a local bar so fans could stop by, pick them up, talk and enjoy. Download that. The first single is from Pink Reason. It’s pressed on pink wax and while not 180 gram, it’s nice and thick. The sleeve opens up to show a short essay from Kevin about the two recordings he selected for the single. It was a short but intriguing read that left me wanting to know more about the stories surrounding the songs. Both songs, 3:16 and Sweet Sinister, are excellent. This is what a record club needs and this is what this club offers. It is providing that connection between artist, and their fans through both the music and the additional insight provided. The club has officially been sold out so if your not a member you are going to have a real hard time finding a copy of this. Remember that 350 of these are pressed and only 250 club members exist. That means Pink Reason should be getting copies of this and may have some to sell at their upcoming shows.

Vega Vinyl has provided us with a LP package to giveaway this week. It’s the new labels second release from the Boston band Constants and its called “The Murder of Tom Fitzgerril”. This release features 4 tracks and comes in just under 40 minutes. Vega says it “features progressive, sprawling pieces that explore dissonant melody, odd-metered syncopation’s and rise-and-crash-dynamics.” Included in this package both colors of this gatefold LP. You’ll get the Navy Blue LP which is limited to 300 and you will get the black LP which is limited to 200 and comes in a hand numbered sleeve. Both of these are pressed on 180 gram vinyl so you know they will sound great. This version is only available to those who order from Vega Vinyl mailorder. Vega vinyl has also released vinyl by Park and is currently working on their third release from the band Dameria. Be sure to head over to Vega’s site and check them out, all their releases are limited so pick them up if your interested. They also have a Myspace page so you can preview tracks off their releases, including the one you can win here.

As usual, to enter this contest send an email to contest@limitededitionvinyl.com with “Constants” in the subject and your name in the body. Entries must be received by Tuesday September 9th at 4PM.
Columbus, OH natives Two Cow Garage are set to release their 4th full length album on the Vinyl Collective/Suburban Home label September 23rd. This album will be the first of the bands releases to be pressed on vinyl. To celebrate the release Vinyl Collective is selling a few packages of the record with some free buttons and cozies. You can pick up either of the LP colors, Gold or Brown, for $10.99 to get those free buttons and that free cozie. You can also pick up a “deluxe edition” package which will include the CD, both colors of the LP, a Two Cow Garage pint glass, a Two Cow Garage shirt, and those buttons and that cozie still. That set will cost you $40 which isn’t too bad for all that. At this point Vinyl Collective is the only store with the records on sale for pre-order. If your interested head over to the site and place your order. Is it just me or is Columbus just exploding with good bands? You can head over to Donewaiting to download “Your Humble Narrator”, the opening track off this album and to see tour dates so you can get out and see them play.

Happy Labor Day. To celebrate we are going to look back at a great album that was surrounded with so much hype I almost didn’t buy the album. It’s Clap Your Hands Say Yeah from New York City, famous for self releasing their album and selling it out of their tiny NYC apartment. Well the album was deserving of the hype, and I had no idea until this weekend that it was even released on vinyl at all. In fact, no mention of this release is anywhere expect Insound and Wichita, with the latter only linking to iTunes to purchase the album so they are sold out it appears. The LP is a bit pricey, it is an import to the USA, and the album is really great so I am sure that doesn’t help the price. If your reading this after a day out in the sun with the family you may have had enough beers to make this purchase an easy one. The LP is only $33 plus shipping and it is available from the fine folks at Insound right here. I will also mention that the last time one of these hit eBay it sold for $46 dollars so maybe that $33 price tag is not all that crazy. You might even want to pick up two and sell one on eBay to some poor unsuspecting soul once these sell out at Insound, which shouldn’t take too long (this was just added to their catalog). While I am mentioning things, Insound also has an exclusive tour only CD from 2006 featuring Clap Your Hands, Architecture in Helsinki and Takka Takka. This is the only place to get them and once they are gone, they are gone.

2007 will forever be remembered by Against Me! loyalists the year they “sold out.” While these people were bickering about the idea of selling out and Florida coffee shops, Buffalo’s White York put out a record that all of these fans would be content with. “Changing the Wheel” didn’t change the wheel, but it was a solid effort by a band with an unfortunately short career. Besides a demo, this was the only proper release from this band. The vinyl released as a black 7″ is limited to 300 and has a screen pressed cover and backing complete with a small insert book. The record is still available through No Idea. Although the band has since broken up, this is a record that will have a hard time leaving your turntable. It contains the song “Changing the Wheel”, heard here, which was one of the best songs of 2007. Side B contains a much mellower song about becoming attached to one’s pain and suffering. All in all, this was one of the best 7″s of 2007 and for under $3 is a must buy.

This is Limited Edition Vinyl’s 100th post and the first post from our new contributor, Don B, who will be covering punk rock records, and others, for the site.

Recorded during the last 18 months, the new Grails LP “Doomsdayer’s Holiday”, is said to be their heaviest record yet. Judging solely by the wicked scary cover you can bet it will be. Temporary Residence Limited will release Doomsdayer’s on October 7th. Details about the record have been slim. All of TRL’s releases are limited so if you just wanna make sure you get a copy Insound is your only pre-order option at the time of writing. However, TRL releases also feature a smaller pressing of about 200 on special color vinyl and/or with screen printed jackets. If that’s your route keep an eye on the Temporary Residence site for pre-order news. If your not sure you even want to pick this record up, check out one of the tracks on Grails Myspace page. Since we are the subject of Grails records, The Grails official store currently has copies from BOTH Take Refuge pressings. The 1st pressing purple limited to 200, and the amber limited to 100, available for $20 postage paid USA, $27 outside US. Both colors went fast so this is a deal.

Update - Each cover version will have 500 records pressed in color. The colors are Metallic Gold/Clear mix and Metallic Silver/Clear mix. These will only be available from TRL or the Grails on tour.

Update #2 - TRL is now taking pre-orders on their site. The cover shown will only be available if you order from TRL directly.

Black Moth Super Rainbow is releasing a new 9 track EP this fall featuring the bands “more colorful” tracks that will not be making it onto the bands new album. This 10 inch EP is billed as a limited edition scratch and sniff EP. No information about the number of records that will be pressed in this run but the CD version, being released by The 70s Gymnastics Recording Co., of this release is limited to 2,000 and will not be pressed again. I figure the 10 inch is less then the CD run but I could be wrong. I highly doubt that it will be more then the CD run. The EP is set to be released on November 4th and Graveface will be accepting pre-orders “soon”. Pre-orders for the CD version are already being taken by the band and these will start shipping next week on August 29th. This will be the second release for the band this year. Suicide Squeeze also released their excellent Zodiac Girls 7″ earlier this year. That release was limited to 2,000 copies on clear vinyl and can still be purchased directly from Suicide Squeeze.

Dungens new full length, 4, is being released by their original Swedish label Subliminal Sounds on a limited edition vinyl pressing of 1,500 on clear wax. This pressing will only be available from the label or possibly a European distributor or store. The new 10 track LP will also be released by US label Kemado (Sister label of newly formed Mexican Summer who is releasing the first 12″ single off this album) but I have no details on this pressing which is set to release September 30th. The Swedish version is set to release on September 23rd and you can pre-order the album directly from Subliminal Sounds. Being a fan of Dungen myself, I am very excited about the release, from what I read it appears to be a bit of a shift from the band, and what I find really amazing is that every track falls under the 5 minute mark. The lead instrument on this release is said to be piano as opposed to the guitar which was the center of most of the past recordings. If your from the US or Canada or any other country that’s not close to Sweden, you can pre-order from Insound as well but keep in mind this will be the US pressing and will not be on clear vinyl, but it is the only store taking pre-orders at this point and it will be much cheaper then importing a LP from Sweden. You can also stream the new single at Dungens Myspace page right here.

Mexican Summer, the new label that will feature only high quality limited vinyl releases has officially launched and provided details about their upcoming releases. If you have not already noticed, this label is a bit different from other labels. Besides only offer vinyl packaged with care they will not be taking any orders for their records individually. You will be required to buy a subscription of vary degree. First lets talk about the releases. I already wrote about the Dungen 12″ they are dropping first. Here is a break down of the full release schedule for the first year.

September 2008

MEX 001 - Dungen - Satt Att Se (limited to 1000)

MEX 002 - Nachtmystium - Worldfall (limited to 1000)

MEX 003 - Headdress - Turquoise (limited to 500)

MEX 004 - Mexican Summer Gift

November 2008

MEX 005 - Marissa Nadler - Ballads of Living and Dying (limited to 1000)

MEX 006 - The Tallest Man On Earth - Shallow Grave LP/7” (limited to 500)

December 2008

MEX 007 - Mexican Summer Special Holiday Release

January 2009

MEX 008 – The Orkustra (2xLP, limited to 1000)

MEX 009 – Black Moth Super Rainbow picture disk LP (limited to 1000)

March 2009

MEX 010 – Valet (limited to 500)

MEX 011 - TBA

So now we go back to how to get the records. You can sign up for 3 different subscriptions right now. The first is for 4 months. This package includes the first 5 records, a holiday bonus record and “exclusives”. This first subscription will cost you $80 plus $20 for shipping in the USA. Canadians will need to pay $25 for shipping, and international customers need to contact Mexican Summer to work out shipping. Option number 2 is $135 plus $30 for shipping. This includes 9 albums, the holiday bonus records and those exclusives. If your paying attention this option will net you everything that has been announced so far, including the TBA MEX011 release. The final option you have is a full year subscription for $185 dollars plus $40 for shipping. While this seems pretty expensive this option will get you 13 albums (at roughly $17 a piece), multiple holiday bonuses and more exclusives. Something tells me if you drop this much on the new label you’ll get some nice gifts for being so generous. Some of these record have limited colors, like the Dungen release, but no word on who gets what colors, I suspect subscribers who sign up first will get access to those.

As I mentioned, Mexican Summer will not be selling any individual releases directly. Select indie stores will receive copies of each record. If a record store in your area is not carrying the records you do have one online option and that is Insound. For a full list of stores that will be carrying Mexican Summer releases continue reading below.

The Decemberists have announced a brand new 12″ singles series that is available exclusively from their web store. The series is titled “Always The Bridesmaid” and consists of 3 volumes of limited edition color vinyl 12″ records. The records are pressed on 180 gram vinyl and come packaged in a full color sleeve. The jacket is die cut so the sleeve is displayed in the front. The details of each release are as follows:

This single was released last year in the UK by Rough Trade records and happens to be what I consider one of my favorite Belle & Sebastian songs, The Blues Are Still Blue. This UK only single is pressed on vivid sky blue vinyl and the quantity pressed is unknown to me. On this single are 2 tracks, The Blues Are Still Blue which is taken from The Life Pursuit and a cover of the Thin Lizzy song titled Whiskey In A Jar. Belle & Sebastian fans from outside the UK can finally order this single via Insound for $8.99 right here. No word on any new material from these guys yet so while we wait pick this up and enjoy the cover on the B-side and an awesome track all on its own wax.

Limited Edition Vinyl and Nerd Alert Records are proud to announce contest #3 for some free records featuring the album Sound The Alarm by Saves The Day. Nerd Alert was kind enough to provide an EXCLUSIVE red vinyl pressing of this LP which is limited to only 300 copies to give to 1 lucky boy or girl. The 300 on White were Vinyl Collective exclusives but Nerd Alert did a trade and has copies of that color at their store as well. If you have not checked out Nerd Alerts store I suggest you do, they have a great selection of punk rock, alternative and indie records. If you want a copy of this LP on red and you don’t win, have no fear because it’s currently on sale for only 10.99 right here!

As usual, to enter this contest send an email to contest@limitededitionvinyl.com with “Saves The Day” in the subject and your name in the body. Entries must be received by Tuesday August 26th at 4PM. The winner will be announced the following day. By entering this contest you will also be added to the Nerd Alert email list, a small price to pay to have a chance at winning a free, very limited, LP.
