Celebration is the first full length release from Alabama’s genre defying Thomas Function. In every other review I have read the reviewer goes on to say they are a blend of punk, pop, R&B, garge rock and so on. Honestly, I don’t know what to call it other then kick ass, infectious rock n roll. The first thing you will notice is Joshua Macero lead vocals. It is somewhat high pitched and reminds me of the first time I listened to the Dead Kennedys and was taken back by Jello’s vocals. Think that will bother you? Think again. The next thing you notice are the clean guitar licks racing along with the song. You can’t help but dance to the groovy pop style keys that chase that clean guitar line all over the record. The production on this record is top notch, crisp and clean. Alive released this LP in a linited edition of 500 copies on clear wax. It sold out almost immediately. Due to issue with the pressing plant some of the LPs had issues on the b-side which have resulted in some distributors not selling their copies and probably making this pressing run much less then 500. My copy is just fine thankfully! In the latest installment of the Scratch Records newsletter they advertised that they had copies to sell but when I searched the website it was not to be found. I guess its over to eBay if you really want a copy! Alive will be doing a re-press on black vinyl and that will be available very soon.

Thomas Function has also released many great 7″ singles. Chances are they will not be available for much longer, as most of them are not already. Head over to Dusty Medical Records to pick up a limited to 100 copy re-press of the 2007 single ‘Relentless Machine’ on orange wax for $3.75. This was originally released as a 500 pressing run, 100 on color, 400 black. Tic Tac Totally also has copies of this (not sure if its first press color or not) as well as the ‘My Empire’ 7″. The bands first 7″ ‘Vanity Lights’ seems to be completely out of print, both pressings. You can head over to Rocket Reducer and pick up a copy of the bands 2nd 7″ ‘The Insignificants’ (black wax repress I believe) which was pressed originally on green (100 copies I think), then on blue and finally on black. They also have a repress of ‘Relentless Machine’ that Pat says is on Clear wax? Not sure whats up with that. You might find some of these from European distributors. I got the last copy of the ‘Relentless Machine’ original color pressing from P Trash for and arm and a leg thanks to our weak US dollar. European distributors are a great place to find OOP US releases. It’s going to cost you though.
