CONTEST: Gultskra Artikler & Lanterns Split + More

October 21st, 2008 · 1 Comment

Artists: Gultskra Artikler / Lanterns
Title: Split
Format: LP
Label: Other Electricities
Catalog #: OE014
Pressed: 500 (Marble)

Other Electricities is releasing the second in a series of vinyl only releases. This release, limited to 500 copies on a marble vinyl, is a split 12″ between Russian avant-folk artist Gultskra Artikler and the UK drone outfit Lanterns. This split release will appeal to fans of certain releases featured on this site. Winning free records is also a great way to discover some new music you may not have otherwise heard. Nice Promo has a great description of the artists that I will quote below.

Gultskra Artikler is a project of Alexey Devyanin. Originally from Novosibirsk, Russia, he is currently based in Moscow. His art absorbs the feeling of the inclement winters and endless snow-white landscapes. The music of GA lives in its own way, it has no prototypes. It’s a unique mixture of brutal and honest vibes of mysterious Siberian soul and hi-tech-nologies, unpredictable electro-acoustic and avant-garde instrumental movements, precision electronic manipulations and strange field recordings. A sort of Neo-folk cyber-psychedelia. Since 2004, Alexey has actively released his sounds in various formats and quantities on labels such as Miasmah, Lampse, Autoplate, Nexsound, Hyperboloid and SAAG.

Originally conceived sometime in 2005, Lanterns formed as a tribute to disobedients past and present. A desire to experiment with the limited tools available to them in a quest for new modes of expression has led to hours of recordings, some of which made their way onto releases by labels such as Sloow Tapes, Beyond Repair, Blackest Rainbow as well as their own Screeching Snowflake imprint. Lanterns certainly dig the spirit of improvisation but in a gonzo knuckle headed fashion where the process is as important as the results and friends who would not normally consider themselves to be musicians have been drafted in for jams, all of which are recorded into one microphone with minimal editing. The moment of ‘now’ is always key in a Lanterns jam and when that is found the experience can be truly magical. Keen to find a balance between beauty and ugliness, sweet with the sour, dissonance and harmony, randomness with control, their brand of emotive Kosmische music is the kind that draws you in gently and spits you out at the other end. Lanterns is currently slimmed down to a duo of Luke and Andreas, mainly playing a combination of guitars, keyboards and various amplified acoustic sound sources, and Geographically split between Leeds and Glasgow.

We have a great contest to feature for this release! You will get a copy of this LP and also get the 2 other vinyl releases that Other Electricities has released. This will then include the Steven Hess / Miles Tilmann “Departures” Split LP which is the first release in the series and is limited to only 300 copies. You will also get a great 7″ by the artist Dot Tape Dot that is limited to 300 copies on purple vinyl. Check out the links in this post to preview some of the music. If your interested in ordering these releases and not waiting for a winner to be picked you can go to the Other Electricites online store and purchase all 3.

I suppose it’s because I have been enjoying Rocktober too much and have not kept up with posting but we now have 2 contests running side by side. So pay attention! If you want a chance to win this LP send an email to contest@limitededitionvinyl.com with the subject line “Drone”. Entries must be received by Monday, October 27th at 4PM EST to be valid. I will announce the winner shortly after.  Your welcome to enter both contests, but please be sure to send 2 emails, one for each contest.  Thank you and good luck!
